Effective 04/10/2008, the Insurance Services Office (ISO) recommended that the classification of Iowa Colony be changed to a split Class 6/9. This recommendation was based on a review of the community. This review was performed on 06/05/2007.
With a split Class 6/9, all class-rated properties located within 1,000 feet of a fire hydrant and within 5 miles of a fire station will use Class 6. All class-rated properties located further than 1,000 feet of a fire hydrant and not within 5 miles of a fire station will use Class 9.
Public Protection Classifications range from 1 (best) to 10 (worst).
